Welcome to PB Psychotherapy

I am an experienced Direct Member of the UKCP & Registered Systemic Psychotherapist who has worked in differing roles of NHS Mental Health practice for over 30 years.

As an experienced Psychotherapist in Widnes, I offer individual, couple and family systemic psychotherapy for all age groups that adapts to your unique experiences and circumstances.

I have significant experience in working with Trauma [PTSD & cPTSD]

Whether you're dealing with trauma, anxiety, or personal conflicts, I can help you identify your strengths, set goals, and work toward a healthier, more balanced life.

Why Access Psychotherapy?

The Challenges of Life

Life can be challenging, and at times our problems and difficulties can feel overwhelming. It is common to struggle with making sense of the situations we find ourselves in and the emotions we are experiencing. There are moments when additional support is needed to help us cope with difficult or painful circumstances.

The Role of Psychotherapy

As a psychotherapist, my role is to offer a compassionate and safe therapeutic space where you can explore and work through these difficulties and challenges. This process happens at a pace and in a style that feels comfortable for you. I am committed to providing a non-judgmental, supportive environment, allowing us to collaborate in overcoming obstacles. I aim to empower you to develop new coping strategies, build resilience, and foster your personal growth.

A Flexible, Individualised Approach

I believe therapy should be flexible and tailored to each individual. Whether you prefer in-person sessions or online therapy via Microsoft Teams, we can choose the format that best suits your lifestyle and comfort level. Each session is designed to move at your preferred pace, ensuring we address your concerns in a safe and supportive manner.

Individual Therapy

Individual Therapy offers a focused approach to personal growth and healing. Systemic psychotherapy for individuals centres on your unique experiences while also considering the wider systems—like family and society—that influence your life. This perspective acknowledges that challenges often stem not only from internal struggles but also from external factors such as family dynamics and societal expectations. By examining these connections, therapy helps you gain a deeper understanding of how your relationships, both past and present, impact your mental health and overall well-being.

When Can Individual Therapy Help?

If you’re experiencing any of the following, individual therapy may provide valuable support:

  • Mental health issues: Facing anxiety, depression, trauma, or other emotional challenges.

  • Life transitions: Navigating significant changes, such as job loss, bereavement, or divorce.

  • Relationship problems: Having difficulty communicating or sustaining healthy relationships.

  • Self-esteem issues: Struggling with insecurity or low confidence.

The Benefits of Individual Therapy

Individual therapy creates a safe, supportive environment to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Through this process, you can develop practical strategies for coping with challenges and working toward your personal goals.

Couples Therapy: Understanding and Strengthening Relationships

What Is Couples Therapy?

Couples therapy focuses on the interactions and dynamics within intimate relationships. In therapy, we work together to consider a variety of factors that may be impacting your relationship, such as personal and relationship history, current dynamics, communication patterns, attachment styles, sources of stress and distress, feeling stuck, and issues of trust.

The Therapist's Role

My role is not to take sides, but rather to facilitate open and honest discussions. This creates a space where both partners can better understand their individual needs as well as the needs of their partner.

Areas Explored in Therapy

  • How past experiences are shaping current behaviour and responses.

  • Identifying patterns in communication that may contribute to conflict.

  • Developing strategies to handle disagreements in a more constructive way.

  • Building trust, empathy, and emotional resilience within the relationship.

  •

Working Towards Shared Goals

By focusing on both individual and shared goals, therapy helps couples find ways to restore balance, respect, and affection within their relationship.

Who Can Benefit?

Couples Therapy can benefit relationships at any stage. Whether you are just starting out or have been together for years, therapy offers support for strengthening your bond and overcoming challenges.

Family Psychotherapy

Family Therapy helps people in close relationship help each other. It enables family members, couples and others who care about each other to express and explore thoughts and emotions safely. This can help you to understand each other’s experiences and views, appreciate each other’s needs, build on strengths and make useful changes in your relationships and your lives.

Individuals also can find Family Therapy helpful, as an opportunity to reflect and strengthen important relationships.

As an experienced Consultant Systemic Family Psychotherapist, I offer a therapeutic approach that focusses on the interconnectedness of individuals within a family system. It provides a safe and supportive space for family members to explore their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, and to gain a deeper understanding of how these factors influence their relationships. By working with the family unit, I help you better understand each other’s perspectives, appreciate individual needs, and create meaningful changes in your relationships.
